Increase independent work sessions with teacher supervision
Teacher's name: GETI IT teaching group
Timing: Continued
Methodology: Exercises in the classroom
Class-group size: Between 15 and 30 students
Level of studies: Degree
Degree, semester within the degree and subject: GETI, Q1 and Spring semester, Computer Science
Possible adaptation of the activity to other subjects: Extrapolable to other similar subjects
Activity Description:
The Computer Science subject at GETI is taught in both the autumn and spring semesters. The type of students and the number of groups are completely different in the two semesters. The majority of students in the fall semester are taking the course for the first time, while almost all of the students in the spring semester are repeat students. On the other hand, the number of groups is much smaller in the spring semester. For this reason, the good practice proposal that will be implemented is to do the entire subject in groups of a maximum of 30 students, in a computer room and focusing all activities on the students, through personal work tutored by teachers who will be in the classroom.
Activity evaluation system and impact on the evaluation of the subject:
The evaluation system does not change.
Promotion of attendance in the classroom:
Eliminating lectures should increase attendance. So far, the classes held in the computer lab have had a higher percentage of attendance.
Evidence of student assessment:
No data available yet.
Proportion of hours dedicated by the teaching staff to the hours dedicated by the students:
The calculation is teacher hours / student hours. Faculty hours include preparation, execution and evaluation. Studentship hours include both in-classroom and out-of-classroom work.
Given that the groups must be smaller, this new way of doing classes involves a 33% increase in dedicated hours per student.
